Every once in a while there's an item in the news that reminds us of the story of Romulus and Remus. Legend has it that Romulus, the first king of Rome, and its co-founder, was one of a pair of twins raised by a she-wolf.

Today, my current intern, Katie, and I were looking for positive news stories that might be of interest to Bow. He can get very upset if he hears of cruelty, whether it is directed at chimpanzees, humans or anyone else. He behaves badly when he is upset, so stories about prisoners in Guantanamo are something we avoid. Today, this item jumped out at us as being the kind of story that Bow likes.

The mother instinct is an amazing thing. Mother love transcends race barriers and even can be transferred to a different species. Sometimes a dog has it, while the human who is the birth mother of the child in question does not.
You would think this sort of event would be rare -- something that happens once in a thousand years. But in searching for the link for this story so I could include it here, I found yet another story of an abandoned baby and a dog who rescued it. This time the dog was Romanian, and the item was first posted in 2003.
